Despite the growing research interest in agricultural certification, particularly organic and Fair Trade, there has been a gap in literature covering the Asian region. While often regarded separately, reality indicates that Fair Trade and organic initiatives are being incorporated collectively into Asian agriculture, with several accompanying contradictions. Through case studies from India, Thailand and the Philippines, this book explores 11 different dimensions of contradictions that result from double certification and the resulting tensions, as well as their roles in rural development, poverty reduction and environmental conservation.
This pioneering study on double certification would be of great interests to scholars focusing mainly on agricultural economics, geography, and political science.
