Indifferent to each administration’s desire to either solidify our alliance with Japan in order to bring balance to East Asia or our half-hearted attempts to engage China in belief they will become a and quot;responsible stakeholder and quot; on the international stage, we have spent little time focusing on a region that will become vitally important in our lifetime.
