"The art of just “being” is easy, but “being” “black” and a “woman” in a world that criticizes you for being are all three, is a continuous battle that will be fought until the end of time."
~Meika J Cole
The Soul of a Black Woman: Journeys Through Poetry, serves as an ethnographic account, describing the emotions and thoughts of African- Women, as it relates to culture, identity, representation, and spirituality.
Using poetry and simple narratives, the author divides the book into two sections: (1) Dark places and (2) Welcome Back to the Light. The author focuses on stories of loss, redemption, and self-worth, while offering balance through God’s word. You may laugh, cry, or may get upset as you revisit those moments, but it’s all about getting to the place of total healing.
