On the day her husband, the Duke of Monteferro, was assassinated, Eleonora Farisi took her two little girls, Bianca and Rosalinda, and a few loyal friends and fled to a villa hidden near the Italian Alps. They lived in peaceful isolation until one snowy night when a strange young man appeared, clad only in a bearskin. Andrea quickly turned their lives upside down. Rosalinda fell into love with him, Bianca gave way to passionate longings she dared not express, and Eleonora concocted a plan to use Andrea to restore Monteferro to the Farisi family and make Bianca the duchess. But, unknown to her, elsewhere others were also plotting, and their schemes could only mean death to Eleonora and her children. At the center of the wicked plot was the infamous Niccolo Stregone, master of intrigue and murder.
Meanwhile, the honest condottiere, Francisco Bastiani, was making his own plans in an attempt to save the youth who had been entrusted to his care. Meeting Eleonora was a complication he did not need.
Family loyalties, desperate passions, and true love soon produced a dangerous conspiracy that could destroy them all.
