Carmudgeonly Milton 'Millie' Malone and his long-suffering wife, Dulcie, sell their farm and move to town, looking forward to a rest from their labours. Newly wealthy, they take with them little beyond Millie's La-Z-Boy recliner and, of course, their working dog, Blue. Dulcie's not convinced that Blue belongs in an urban setting, but the situation has its benefits--She relishes her time spent alone while Millie takes Blue for a daily walk on a nearby scenic lookout. Life is uncomplicated, and the couple do get some rest--But then Blue dies. Millie mopes, becoming even more impossible, till Dulcie brings him home a tiny pup. The old farmer is not yet reconciled to 'Cyril' when further tragedy strikes. Will Millie and Cyril cope? Will their relationship strengthen? It's a long way back to the top of the hill.
