Salaam. My name is Sharifa Salamah-Cagney. Got a story to share with you. I was born in Gharyan, Libya, to a Libyan mother and a Saudi Arabian Muslim father. My family came to Canada, fleeing political strife. Growing up in Montreal, Quebec, I felt like the daughter of two worlds. To defy the haters, I became the only female wrestler on the men’s team, which taught me to face adversity. Years later, at the University of Montreal, I met Tariq Jefferson Cagney, a handsome Muslim brother from America. Sparks flew between us, and we became lovers. I love this man, racial and cultural differences be damned. This is our story of falling in love, overcoming the odds and raising a unique family.
