A new Caligari comes to life - accompanied by a five-piece band.

Embracing the long shadows and broad brushstrokes of German expressionism, Caligari exposes parallels between post-war Weimar and the UK today: an ever-widening class divide, a subconscious need for a tyrant, and an unwillingness to rebel against deranged authority.

The doctor’s victims take centre stage in this minty-fresh take on the German horror cult-classic, written by Georgie Bailey and presented by Off West End Award-winning Chewboy Productions. This edition was published to coincide with the production at Underbelly Cowgate, Edinburgh, in August 2022.

Georgie Bailey is a multi-award-winning playwright and poet. In 2020, he graduated from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School’s MA Dramatic Writing and recently completed his tenure as one of the Oxford Playhouse Playmakers. He’s an alumnus of Soho Theatre, HighTide Theatre, Minack Theatre and Papatango’s respective playwright development schemes and produces inclusive, accessible arts projects as a freelancer. Georgie is Co-Artistic Director of ChewBoy Productions and an associate artist of the OFFIE-nominated Proforca Theatre Company.

ChewBoy Productions are a multi-award-winning multi-arts company, dedicated to making minty fresh work that sticks since 2018. They create surreal work with a human heart, blending absurd comedy with dark poignancy, often interrogating the sides of our psyche we’re afraid to talk about.
