In a small town a woman recovers from an injury and dreams of the day that she can go back to work in her local police department, catching the bad guys and not pretending to like learning to knit. Between trying to keep her giant dog from eating everything she owns including an expensive handbag, Melinda Rafferty finds herself pulled back into the brutal murder of a rookie cop. Unfortunately for her that murder means that she has to deal with the creepy medical examiner who has a crush on her plus a not so friendly rival on the force. When Melinda's wayward brother shows up out of nowhere he proves to be the tipping point not only for her patience but for the case she is working on.
