"Demonstrating a high level of effectiveness in the classroom is without a doubt a prerequisite to becoming a coach, but coaching also requires an understanding of adult learning, change management theories, and systems thinking; it calls for high levels of cultural competence and emotional intelligence; and it necessitates the ability to build relationships quickly and effectively. Coaches need to possess a range of skills including communication, organization, facilitation, planning, and managing groups. These capacities to work with and promote the learning of adults are not what teachers learn in pre-service programs nor in any venue in which they circulate as they master their profession. Therefore, there is a tremendous and un-met need for resources which can support coaches to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to fulfill the potential of coaching"--
