"Nearly 1 in every 10 K-12 students in the United States in an English Language Learner. That represents nearly 5 million students who need to learn how to speak English - and use it in all other subject areas - and teaching them requires teachers to employ unique strategies and techniques. The majority of ELL students speak Spanish - roughly 3.8 million students. 85% of K-5 ELL students and 62% of 6-12 ELL students were born in the United States. 29% of US ELL students reside in California, followed by Texas (18%), Florida (5%), and New York (4%)"--
