Prominent American gemologist George Frederick Kunz (1856-1932) was responsible for many advances in the gem and mineral world, including identifying a new colour of spodumene that was named kunzite in his honour. He heavily influenced New York jeweller Charles Lewis Tiffany to produce his first semi-precious green tourmaline line of jewellery for his company Tiffany & Co.
