Looking Back: Nebraska Lessons and Legacies

LOOKING BACK: NEBRASKA LESSONS AND LEGACIES is the tale of Janice J. Marrett's family heritage. When native Nebraskan Marrett began researching her historical family, the thread of tapestry consistently highlighted the goals and rewards of education. She embroiders the details of her family's immigration from Ireland to the United States in the 1700s, their migration to Missouri in the 1800s, and their arrival in Nebraska in 1913. Surviving as tenant farmers through the Civil War, the Great Depression and two World Wars, the family lessons and legacies continue into future family generations.

Janice Marrett is a native Nebraskan, born in Loup City. She attended the University of Nebraska, Omaha and majored in Early Childhood Education. In 1958 she married George J. Marrett and they have two sons, Randall alan and Scott Steven. They have been blessed with four grandchildren and it is Janice’s hope that the legacy of history and education will continue through their lives.
