Ellen Ruppel Shell is a writer, a journalist, and an academic. Formerly professor and director of the graduate program in science journalism at Boston University, Shell has contributed to the Boston Globe, the New York Times, and the Atlantic, where she is a longtime contributing editor and correspondent.
