Lydia: the woman you must know: addresses the issue of the Christian woman's place at home, church and the society through the character study of the New Testament woman Lydia.
As the first Christian convert in Europe Lydia showed qualities that was rare in women of her time. She was devoted to God and an independent woman. She managed a business and a household without the support of a man. And put a different face on feminism; but showed that a woman's liberation begins with the fear of God.
Lydia, although an immigrant woman did not waver in her beliefs, values and things she held dear from her past. She did not allow her adopted society's view to affect her dreams to be the woman God created her to be.
Following her conversion, she hosted the missionaries in her home for the period that they stayed in Philippi and gave an example of what christian hospitality should be.
The book sheds light on God's will to use women in Christian ministry as well as God's plan for women and work outside home. It also reaches out to women to strive to live their dreams in reality.
