JOHN CHARLES UNGER, a Canadian singer-songwriter, has come a long way from the tomato fields of Leamington, Ontario where he was raised as a Mennonite. As a youngster he dreamed about owning his own guitar and amplifier and playing rock and roll. His parents hoped he would be a classical violinist. Fast forward some thirty years to the present day. He is seated comfortably in his director’s chair before his digital recording console, producing the music of his soul in his own recording studio in St. Petersburg Florida. He performs all over that charming Southern state with his very successful live act, WHEN BUFFETT MEETS SINATRA. (whenbuffettmeetssinatra.com) Along the way he: *Started a Canadian band called The Dorian in 1969, with records released all over the world. Some of those early releases are now auctioning on Ebay. *Formed The Shivers in 1975, with their remake of The Isley’s This Old Heart Of Mine on Private Stock Records. *Wrote Now That I’ve Found You for Al Hudson and One Way on MCA Records in 1979. *Winner in 2001 of the prestigious JOHN LENNON SONGWRITING COMPETITION for his children’s song, Picadilly. *Built and operated his own recording studio near Ann Arbor Michigan, producing hundreds of artists over twenty-five years. *Producer, arranger, singer, multi-instrumentalist; he performs every instrument and every vocal on his new CD album, OH MY JULIA. A Musician’s Story, seven years in the making, is his first book.
