Histories of Public Service Broadcasters on the Web

Scholars of journalism, communications, information, science, media, and related disciplines explore the loosely defined area of Internet public service broadcasting, focusing on how organizations that understand themselves as public service broadcasters have developed web services. Their overall themes are what is new about online news; commercial versus public; ideals, policies, and practices; local, national, international, global; and interactivity and public service broadcasting sites. Among specific topics are public service communication at the center of National Public Radio, the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation on the web 1994-2000, the idea of public service in the early history of Denmark Radio online, regional radio and online media production by the Australian Broadcasting corporation, and Al-Jazeera English as a case study of moving from broadcast to networked journalism.
