Suri (emeritus industrial engineering, U. of Wisconsin-Madison) led a coalition of companies and academics investigating quick response manufacturing for a decade and a half, and wrote the first comprehensive account of it 10 years ago. Here he yields to pleas for something not quite so comprehensive, a lighter treatment that would allow managers and other executives to grasp the basic outlines without impeding their lunch schedule. He sets out in succinct form the core concepts of the power of time, organizational structure, system dynamics, and enterprise-wide application. A final chapter provides a road map for implementing quick response manufacturing. The accompanying disk contains appendices with calculating methods and examples.
