While vacationing in Italy with her fourteen-year-old daughter, Nina Downing falls in love with the culture, the language and with a fellow tourist Jack, who she soon learns is a Catholic priest. After the tour, they part as friends and Nina returns to her husband in Chicago and Jack to his parish in Boston. Believing they will never see each other again, they fondly remember the fun they shared in romantic Italy - until a phone call changes everything. Placed in a precarious situation, they each must make a difficult choice. Despite the potential for losing her family, Nina attempts to justify the love she feels for two men, while seeking solace in the arms of both. Jack however, feels a deep unrelenting guilt inside his soul and begins a descent into an abyss from which he might never return.
