Set largely on the Caribbean island of Dominica, with brief excursions to Malta and the United Kingdom, this book tells the story of a strong, sophisticated woman who returns to her native country to confront the man who abused her as a child. One of seven children, the author, Paula A. John comes from the Island of Dominica, in the West Indies. Village life in the late 60s - early 70s provided an endless supply of adventure and stories which serve as a backdrop for much of her book. Paula has a degree in French and taught at one of the secondary schools in Dominica before emigrating to Britain in 1994, where she trained as a nurse. Now in her mid-forties, Paula has just completed an MA in Linguistics at the University of Manchester. She has two daughters who share her love for travel, fashion and creative writing. Together, they spent a year in Malta and, again, their experiences are reflected in the stories and characters of the novel. ’Taming A Hurricane’ is Paula’s first book and reflects in many ways, her interest in ’language’. Paula is a Christian and believes that ’God’ belongs to the people. This book reflects one person’s attempt to touch him.
