Gene Cryer is the author of two previous Jake Ward novels, Follow the Dollar and a.k.a. Murder, and spent thirty eight-years as a journalist, the last fifteen as editor/vice president of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, before retiring to devote his time to writing. He also has been an active horseman, winning a dozen national and world titles as a non-pro exhibitor. A Pale Horse in Barn Eight is his fourth novel.
