First Feature is a bitingly wry detective whodunit featuring ex-LAPD's not so celebrated detective Anthony Carrick as he juggles mafia lords, drug addled neophytes, nymphomaniacs, gay counterculture, vegan hippies and tinsel town's dark side in a quest to uncover a homicide in the midst of his own personal turmoil. Like Sam Spade, Philip Marlowe and other hard boiled detectives before him, Anthony Carrick uses his guts, charm and humor to solve murders and deal with the other sordid details of people's lives. Why was one of Hollywood's premier producers bludgeoned to death with his own Oscar? Amongst a dozen suspicious culprits, can Anthony solve this murder and keep Hollywood's seediness out of the tabloids before LAPD Homicide solves it for him. Growing up in South Africa inspired Jason Blacker’s desire for justice and he soon found an outlet for this quest through his writing, both literary fiction but especially hard-boiled detective fiction. He fell in love with the hard-boiled genre years ago and his hard-boiled detective Anthony Carrick is formed from his love for Philip Marlowe, Sam Spade and Mike Hammer amongst others. Jason Blacker has worked as a school bus driver, privacy analyst, coffee store manager and a cop. He’s not as brave as Anthony Carrick nor as outspoken, but he enjoys bad guys getting their karmic debt in spades! Jason Blacker also plays squash, enjoys running and working out and writing poetry. When not writing, those spare few minutes each day, he likes to hang out with his wife and son and the 4 cats that moved in not long ago. He also likes candlelit dinners and walks on the beach...;)
