Most of Becky's life had been difficult. Having survived the abuse in the past, Becky was stronger. She had finally found a secure, loving relationship with a kind, gentle rodeo cowboy. Unfortunately, their mutual love and respect was not enough to carry them through till death do us part, when Buck was killed at a rodeo by a bucking bronco. Becky was lost. She wanted to run away from her life. At her mother's insistence, Becky reluctantly sold the farm to her. Selling the property had been a mistake, and eventually Becky ended up being a tenant, on land she used to own. Mother was just as demanding and controlling as she had been when Becky was a child, but now, to add to Becky's problem, her younger brother, Jerold, had been moved to the farm. Jerold was scarier than any one else in her life had ever been, and now, Mother had made him the "ranch foreman", giving him power over Becky's life. Could Becky retain control over her life, or would Jerold be her new jailer? Or her killer?
