What is One Anotherness? One Anotherness is the art of refining our oneness with others as a believer. Only to discover that our one anotherness with others draws us closer to God. It is the bringing into the fold one more by being one with him or her as scripture challenges us to live. The one living in one anotherness always has eyes for the other, ready to extend the open heart and servant hand. One anotherness is actively in pursuit of being one with the other like Jesus was with the Father. The idea came for this devotional series while working on my DEdMIN. One of my professors, Dr. Mathis, encouraged the students to create and have fun with the "one another" verses. This activity given with such freedom set my mind on fire. How can I use these verses to train up righteousness in another? How can I become the "one another" encourager? Instantly, Dr. Larry Crabb's book titled 66 Love Letters and Sarah Young's devotionals, Jesus Calling and Jesus Lives, came to mind. These authors use a different voice to teach the lessons of God by utilizing the voice of God instead of a self-help guru voice. It is not with the intention to place words into the mouth of God, but to take the passages of scripture and allow the reader to hear the text as if it is God speaking directly to him or her. This voice creates a sense of intimacy that establishes one anotherness with God. It captures the heart of the reader. At times, it flat out stings, but for the most part it causes one to think for hours or days upon the truths revealed. The One Anotherness devotionals will walk you through the various passages which contain the one another verses. Five questions will follow each devotional to challenge you to dig deeper personally or to provide discussion questions if used with a friend or a small group setting. Come and join me on this journey of becoming a living example of one anotherness.
