Alaska has been the author’s home ever since it was granted statehood. She is a graduate from Chico State University in California. She is retired from the beloved University of Alaska Museum of the North in Fairbanks. Her three children, Marci, Mitchell, and Merrick Ward, were born and raised in Fairbanks. She considers it a great place to live with her husband Reford (Jeep) Reid, especially in summer months! Marie’s first years of writing were with short stories for children. Two of her stories were published in "Highlights for Children" by former name, Marie Delilah Ward. Her books came after she retired from U.A. Museum of the North. Each features teenagers in Alaska in various lives and times. Besides "Climbing The Great Denali," they are "The Spirit Basket," "Over Rainbows," and "Whispers to a Deaf Dog."
