Daniel Craig Grandfield, age 47, died on Earth Day, April 22, 2002, of brain cancer. Mr. Grandfield was employed by Chester, Inc. Construction since 1989 as a Landscape Architect, Site Coordinator, and Architectural Draftsman. He provided site, planting, and erosion control plans for the majority of projects executed during his thirteen years of tenure. The site plans he completed have helped guide the development of several commercial and industrial projects in Northwest Indiana. One of his claims to fame is his design of Imagination Glen, in Portage, Indiana. Dan graduated from the Landscape Architecture Program at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1977. He held a Master of Landscape Architecture Degree from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana 91980). He was a Registered Landscape Architect in Indiana and Illinois, and was a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), the Indiana Chapter of several years. He was treasurer for the year 2000. He took an active role in getting Senate Enrolled Act 244 passed by the Indiana State legislature. This act helped further the recognition of Landscape Architects in the state of Indiana. In 1995, Dan received the Best Landscape Award for the City of Merrillville. He published an article concerning the Futuristic House Display of the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair Exposition. Dean was a charter member of the Woodmar United Methodist Church. He was in the Lions Club of Odgen Dunes. He was an active community volunteer, participating in the March of Dimes and "The Valparaiso Christmas in April" events. Dan made a significant impact on his community.
