Doris was an IFYE to the Philippines in 1962. The IFYE, International Farm Youth Exchange, program began in 1948. In 1973, the acronym remained the same, but the wording changed to International Four-H Youth Exchange. Today, IFYE is an international exchange program for 4-H alumni and other young adults, ages nineteen to thirty, interested in a rural living experience, with host families, in another country promoting peace through understanding. The IFYE program is a two-way cultural exchange of youth to promote good will, peace, and world understanding. In the sixty-four years of its existence, thousands of young people have participated in the program. It has made a significant cultural and educational impact in their lives.
