Doom Watch: A Cornish conundrum

The Doom Bar, a treacherous sandbank in North Cornwall’s Camel estuary, has many watchers - with many motives. For analyst George Gilbert, seeking peace after the sudden death of her husband, modelling the shifting Doom Bar is a therapeutic challenge. But not far away, revellers at a stag party are left with a more immediate challenge of their own. Local policeman Peter Travers is left struggling to solve a murder with no clue as to the victim’s identity. One which seems to be, simultaneously, spontaneous and pre-planned.

David Burnell was born and bred in York. He studied mathematics at Cambridge University, then taught the subject in West Africa. Later he studied Operational Research at Lancaster and then spent his professional career analysing management problems in the Health Service, coal mining and latterly the water industry. On ＂retiring＂ he completed a PhD on the deeper meaning of data from London’s water meters. He and his wife live in Berkshire and have a small holiday cottage in North Cornwall.
