Maurice has adopted two kids, who are adults now, and has been a foster parent to over 50 kids in his lifetime. It is through this work, in the trenches, that he developed his parenting program, Getting Your Kids to Think! His background that prepared him for this includes: -7-years experience supervising, developing, and implementing juvenile shelter care for the 18th Judicial District of Montana in compliance with state and federal regulations and setting up a 501(c) 3 non-profit status. Responsible for coordinating implementation of CASA/GAL programs in the state of Montana; training the justices for the Mt. Supreme Court. Established the Bozeman Shelter Care Facility, removing juveniles from adult detention centers not being held on capital offenses. -14 years working for the State of Washington Division of Children and Family Services, in FRS/CPS providing emergency services to law enforcement and private agencies. Most cases were multi-disciplinary and required teamwork and an understanding of current practice in risk assessment and child abuse. -11 years as the Foster Parent Trainer Certifier for the Chance Program of Comprehensive Mental Health Services, Tacoma, Washington. Researched and wrote material for staff and monthly seminars. Developed a complete library of audio, visual and printed materials. Increasing responsibilities included training and writing the manual for CMH Child Respite Program, the Behavior Management Program, and an equivalency program to Foster Parent Scope. -18 years developing my training program, Getting Your Kids to Think!, for private and non-profit agencies in raising biological and foster children. I have been a guest speaker on the five highest-rated radio stations in the Seattle market. Maurice has spoken for the Casey Family Foundation, STARR (Sumner Tobacco and Alcohol Reduction Program), dozens of school districts in Washington state, national and local conferences along with multiple state agencies serving families and children. Maurice knows his material very well.
