Karl H. Schlesier, German-American author, is best known for his work with American Indians and his writings on North American Indians. Born in Düsseldorf on the Rhein on July 31, 1927, he got his Ph. D. in anthropology and art history from Bonn University and held a post-doctoral fellowship in the University of Chicago. He had eight books published and many articles and essays in international journals. He was a professor of anthropology at Wichita State University for thirty years and has been for more years closely associated with the Cheyenne in Oklahoma. He served as a jury member on the Fourth Russell Tribunal "On the Rights of the Indians of the Americas," Rotterdam 1980. And was twice an expert witness on Cheyenne cases before the Federal Court in Oklahoma City.
