Surveys of pre-service and in-service elementary and secondary physical education teachers in the US show that most are very knowledgeable about one or two specific sports, but lack basic information about instructional skills and health-related fitness. In this textbook for preservice physical education teachers, specialists not only in content but in methods of teaching it discuss preparing for successful teaching, teaching primary movement content, and teaching sport skills. Among the topics are understanding and acquiring content knowledge, organizing content for teaching, elementary gymnastics, soccer, basketball, badminton, and tennis.
