Adirondack Mysteries: Gripping Thrillers, Detective Stories, and Crime Fiction Tales in the Mountains

This installment edited by Dennis Webster features thrillers and mysteries by popular Adirondack authors, award-winning crime fiction writers, and locals born and raised in the shadows of the high peaks.

Dennis Webster is a paranormal investigator with the Ghost Seekers of Central New York and a member of the Punishers Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. When he’s not riding his Harley or chasing spirits of the dead, he’s at his writing desk conjuring up his next book. He’s the editor, story compiler, and contributor to the Adirondack Mysteries series volumes 1, 2, and 3. He’s the published author of books on ghosts, haunted locations, true crime, and asylums.

Larry Weill got his start in the Adirondacks as a Wilderness Park Ranger in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He has worked in both finance as well as Xerox Corporation’s supply chain for 30 years. Weill is a retired Navy Captain, and has attained the rank of Rear Admiral as Commanding Officer of the New York Naval Militia. He enjoys writing both fiction and his memoirs about the Adirondacks, and has numerous books published in multiple genres of Adirondack literature. He resides in Walworth, NY, which is located just east of Rochester.

Marie Hannan-Mandel is a Professor of English and lives in Elmira Heights, NY. She has been published in four anthologies, including Adirondack Mysteries 3, and shortlisted for the Crime Writers’ Association (UK) Debut Dagger award.

Gigi Vernon writes thriller crime fiction. Her short fiction has appeared in Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine and Mystery Writers of America Presents Ice Cold: Tales of Intrigue from the Cold War. Her short story ＂Show Stopper＂ received a 2015 International Thriller Writers nomination for best short story.

Woody Sins grew up near the North Country crossroads of West Leyden. Now living in New Hartford, He is a Digital Engineer working on radar systems. He’s a story contributor to Adirondack Mysteries volumes 2 & 3.

G. Miki Hayden has a deep body of work that includes many pieces of short fiction published in small magazines, national magazines, and anthologies (including Adirondack Mysteries volumes 2 and 3 and three Mystery Writers of America anthologies). At the level of the novel, Miki has published a few, including one alternate history lauded by The New York Times. Miki, who has taught at the Writer’s Digest Online University for the past 20+ years, also has two writing instructions in print. Miki has had an Edgar short story win.

Jenny Milchman’s five novels all take place in the fictional Adirondack town of Wedeskyull. Her debut won the Mary Higgins Clark award, was nominated for a PEN/Faulkner, and was a finalist for a Macavity and Anthony. Her third novel won the Silver Falchion award; four of her books were selected as Indie Next Picks; and all five have earned starred reviews, praise from major media such as the New York Times, and Best Of spots on lists such as PopSugar, Pure Wow, the Strand and Suspense magazines. Jenny is a two-time contributor to Adirondack Mysteries and lives downstate in the Catskills.

W. K. Pomeroy is a third-generation writer with more than 75 published short stories, poems and articles is adding a 4th ＂Adirondack Alchemist＂ story to this newest volume of the Adirondack Mysteries & Other Mountain Tales. His underemployed Bosnian research scientist, Damir Hemnon, is one of his favorite characters to write. Mr. Pomeroy is currently marketing a Fantasy novel and a Science Fiction novel to literary agents, and has a collection of ＂Not-For-Children＂ Christmas Stories, he is pitching to publishers. He served 6 terms as President of the Utica Writers Club, and continues to support creative writers as a member of this group.

Cheryl Costa is a published and produced Playwright, a Mystery writer, Novelist, Short Story author and a well-known UFO columnist and published UFO Statistics Researcher. She’s a story contributor to all three volumes of Adirondack Mysteries.

Lorena Sins was raised on a dairy farm not far from the blue line of the Adirondacks. She has a Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Georgia. She has taught English, composition, and literature at Dalton State College for the past nineteen years. Her story, The Whistler in the Attic, is based upon a true story from her childhood growing up the farm. She lives with her husband in Dalton, Georgia where the adjacent mountains remind her of the Adirondacks.

Marianna Heusler is an Edgar-nominated writer of 13 published novels and hundreds of short stories. Her cozy mystery series was bought by Harlequin and included in their book club. She lives in New York City with her husband, her son, and her rescue dog, Triscuit.

Daniel Swift has climbed all 46 Hike Peaks, canoed over 200 miles between the lakes and spent every summer of his youth, at Camp Russel on White Lake in the town of Woodgate, New York. After he gained the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, he continued to explore the Adirondacks and has loved finding different ways to enjoy the majestic views they offer. With that knowledge and understanding of the Adirondacks, Daniel brings some unique realism to his short stories.

Margaret Mendel lives, writes and draws in New York City. She is an award-winning author with short stories and articles appearing online and in print publications. Margaret has published two mystery novels and a collection of short stories. She is also a self-taught artist and began focusing on drawing portraits at the onset of the Covid Pandemic. She is a contributing writer and photographer at a California based online magazine. Her photographs and drawings have appeared in several New York City exhibitions.

Cheyenne Shaffer is a graduate of the Odyssey Writing Workshop and The Never-Ending Odyssey, and she currently lives in Ithaca, New York with her partner and two feline overlords. When she’s not writing, she works as an emergency veterinarian to fund her addictions to books, cats, and fancy coffee. Her short fiction can also be found in Aseptic and Faintly Sadistic: An Anthology of Hysteria Fiction.
