After several years of careful research, I arrived at the uncomfortable conclusion that Robert Lister MacNeil intentionally stole the heritage of the Brevig MacNeill family. He decided from the beginning to erase the significance of this family from clan history. In his book The Clan MacNeil, he ignored facts that did not suit his desired ends and went so far as to distort the truth. This book attempts to chronicle his efforts to do so and to discuss the consequences of his actions, both positive and negative.
