Peppermint and the Hairy Worm is a story about a retired race horse with and adventurous spirit. He makes friends easily. Young readers ages 6-10 will find this story intriguing because the characters, particularly Mr. Larkin, one of his best friends finds himself in a vicarious situation most fathers find themselves. He is unhappy but resigns to do the right thing to help his daughter. Heretofore, ordinarily, Peppermint has been able to help his friends solve problems or he has solved their problems for them. In the Hairy Worm story, Peppermint cannot help nor solve the problem of his best friend, Mr. Larkin, he can only listen to him criticize and complain about his predicament. Peppermint finds some of the situations laughable, for Mr. Larkin had company. Other parents were experiencing the same situations. All's well that ends well when the Mayor, his wife and her committee members find solutions for problems they brought on themselves and the entire community where they live.
