I wrote this story because my English teacher in my sophomore year assigned us to write a superhero story in December of 2012. We had read the book "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings," by Maya Angelou. In it, Maya imagines that her Mom is a superhero against a racist dentist. Afterwards, I thought about the times when I was bullied for being a Special Ed student and decided to write about a superhero with Autism and then Autisome was born. Autisome is dedicated to my boyfriend Justin Quigley. Not only did I dedicate Autisome to Justin because I love him with all my heart, but also because he showed me that having Autism doesn’t make me less of a person, it makes me special instead. The purpose of this story is to teach everyone that people with Autism can still do many things that regular people can do. Having Autism used to really make me feel insecure with myself and I hope that every person with Autism never feels the same way I used to feel.
