Pleasure Trip

Bob Swift is back! Having barely survived the deceptive pleasures and menacing dangers of Southeast Asian street life several years earlier in ＂Last Bus to Korat,＂ this time the good old boy finds himself in yet another set of awkward encounters. Now retired and bored out of his skull, Swift is left ’home alone’ while his wife visits her homeland for two glorious months. Stuck in his ways, always ready to speak his piece, and too damn old to change, this likable fellow rambles through his unmonitored days as he rediscovers the uncertainties and disappointments of temporary bachelorhood. Living the dream, Swift remembers the seasoned joke:
Old man smiling: ＂Just got back from a pleasure trip.＂
Friend: ＂Where’d you go?＂
Old man: ＂Took my wife to the airport!＂
As the weeks limp by, Bob Swift struggles with the shopping and cleaning and daily chores, along with unusual lunches and baseball games and cold beers with an assortment of oddball friends. He gradually begins to miss his dear wife--and not just because there are no clean clothes or food left in the house. Reminiscing about his decades of marriage he finally begins to appreciate the astonishing moments that have made for a wonderful life.
