Siren Song

For elementary schoolteacher Penny Pound, fitting in has always been a struggle. She's extremely creative, a little outside the box, and not nearly as curriculum-conscious as her boss would appreciate.

What Penny does have, however, is her pastime as an organist in her Episcopal church. There, she finds solace in the magnificent hymns, escaping from the heartbreaks of everyday life and a home left empty by the absence of her teenage son.

But this story doesn't start with the joyful melodies of church music. Instead, it begins with the unmistakable call of an emergency siren-as tragedy strikes the home of one of Penny's students, and an innocent life is lost in a fiery blaze.

It is this siren song that sets in motion a life-changing series of events, as suspicions are exposed and accusations begin to fly about the origins of the deadly inferno. But during this time of great suffering, can the efforts of everyday heroes work to bring peace to a devastated family and their shaken community?

Combining elements of humor, tragedy, romance, and spirituality, the debut novel Siren Song introduces protagonist Penny Pound, who navigates her way through the captivating mysteries that lie within her small town.

Jo Greenwood has worked as a teacher in public and private schools for more than twenty years. In addition to an undergraduate degree in elementary education, she has earned master’s degrees in American literature and the literature of London. This literary education has given her a profound appreciation of beautiful language, which she employs in her work.

A former student of the London Repertory Company and vocal coach Tom Pearce, Greenwood has performed as an actor in a variety of community and professional productions. She is a former member of the London Philharmonic Choir, and an Episcopal church organist and choirmaster.

Greenwood is also a married mother of three grown sons, and currently lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and dog.

Siren Song is her debut novel.
