Every weekday morning Rose and her friend Amelia gather with a group of senior citizens at the Gardenton Senior Center to practice tai chi. Afterward the group heads home for a quick change of clothes, returning to the center for a handful of time-filling activities. But this time their return trip brings an unfortunate run-in with some local teenagers. Disturbed by the confrontation, the tai chi instructor decides to incorporate self-defense postures into the regular workouts.
Weeks later Rose has another confrontation, and this time the teens make a grab for her purse. Rose's subsequent actions set her life on a new course and change the thinking of her entire seniors' group as they react to the increasing gang activity in their area. Perhaps they should form a street gang of their own and try to make a difference in their community?
For fans of the Cedar Cove series by Debbie Macomber, Black Dragons is a sad, funny, and triumphant story of a group of seniors pushed aside by society-but determined to see the youth of their neighborhood thrive in spite of their harsh circumstances.
