I am currently living in my home state of Ohio, but have spent considerable time in the western states, including having owned a North Dakota cattle ranch, which inspired the North Dakota setting for my fictional character Will Nickerson’s home. One of the best vacations I have ever experienced was a week on a Wyoming guest ranch, and so I decided to send Will on his own vacation to that type of place in my new novel. I have visited Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and many other wonderful places in this beautiful state. All of my mysteries are set in small town and rural locations, and I like to make each novel I write a virtual vacation away from Ohio; so I don’t write about my hometown. In addition to fiction writing, I am a small businessman and I have a seasonal business of sheep shearing--so the sheep shearing scenes in What’s Up In Wyoming are based on personal experience. In addition to furthering my writing career, I plan to get back into cattle ranching and open an agritourism business. I enjoy hiking, cycling, horseback riding, sailing, skiing, swimming, photography, reading, gourmet cooking, gardening, foreign language studies and travel. I have traveled extensively in the US and Canada and have visited Australia, New Zealand and six European countries. This is my fifth novel in the Will Nickerson Mysteries series, following Ranch Park, It’s A Place For Trees, Viking It Is and Let’s Make It Merry Christmas.
