Cecilia St. May has been inside her home for 1,095 days. In that time, she has been on zero dates. Received zero kisses and her scorecard for getting-it-on is in the red. The oppression is becoming unbearable, and her withdrawal is beginning to show.
Her days are spent longing for physical affection but at night she comes alive as she assembles her team of gamer misfits to play against reality. CeeCee never feels alone when she’s fighting for humanity’s survival against an army of zombie Nazis or a brigade of alien invaders. This universe is a mirage and CeeCee is happy to have found it. In this landscape of make believe she imagines her father is still alive, fear is not her most loyal companion, and most importantly, she feels invincible.
That is, until the one person she depends on in her real life has had enough. Ashton, her best friend since the age of seven, has finally thrown in the towel. He’s done enabling CeeCee’s choice of victimhood over victory. When Ashton turns his back on her, she begins at last to understands the depths of the self-imposed predicament she has been enduring. Because Ashton is who she needs. He is who keeps her real.
Will CeeCee earn back the friendship that’s been her lifeblood for almost two decades? Will she finally step back into the land of the living and fight for the woman she yearns to become? Or will she continue to exist as just a single player?
