Benjamin Oliver (Ben) Severns was born in the early 1900s on a farm in rural Indiana. He learned the hard way what it was like to make a living from a few acres of land through the Depression. Having dyslexia in that era prevented him from receiving a high school education. He was not prevented from learning mechanical engineering in a war-time training school and at a war-time factory job. He was not prevented from using those skills in the Navy during WWII. He was not prevented from using those skills as a mechanical engineer following the war, or from building a seafaring sailboat - on dry land - that eventually became the home for he and his wife, Elly, for a two-year cruise of the Great Lakes, the Eastern Seaboard and the Bahamas. Ben has lived a full life, and he shares some of his memories in this book.
