Now a Chicago stockbroker, Liz returns to the Louisiana bayous for her mother's funeral where she must resolve her heritage as a Cajun healer that she fled from as a teenager.

Her childhood sweetheart has also returned home to find out  who killed his brother, and instead finds that the love of his life has come home. He'd thought she was dead and now finds that she ran without a backward glance, forgetting everything they'd meant to each other.

Asserting that Liz must keep and protect THE FIRE OPAL which the entity will use to create powerful destructive voodoo, he boats to the mythical Quadray Island to get it back without telling Liz.

She and her never forgotten sweetheart take chase, only to meet up with a world where fantasy becomes reality, dark secrets are revealed, and the answers to their questions are not always welcome.
