The Gardening Dog

A heartwarming and beautifully illustrated tale about how both a boy and a dog who don’t quite fit in learn that friendship, like a garden, takes time and nurturing to grow - but that both are always worth the wait.

The Gardening Dog is never chosen to go home with anyone who visits the rescue centre where she lives. Instead she spends her time quietly growing beautiful plants. Then one day she meets a boy called Lewis, who much prefers drawing to running around with the other children. Working together, Lewis and The Gardening Dog create a wonderful community garden for everyone to share, and along the way build a deep friendship that changes both of their lives forever.

Cindy Wumelives and works in Taiwan and is a graduate of the prestigious Anglia Ruskin MA in Illustration. Her first book, The Best Sound in the World, was published by Frances Lincoln in 2018 and was shortlisted for the Klaus Flugge prize. Cindy is passionate about drawing and uses gouache, ink, dip pens and coloured pencils to create her vibrant illustrations, which are regularly featured in Chinese and Taiwanese magazines. Cindy was also part of the visiting contingent of Taiwanese illustrators at Bologna this year and one of their highlighted illustrators in the Bologna Showcase 2018.
