A first ride on a horse at six years old had Hertha hooked for life. After a degree in Zoology, she worked in zoos and looked after the management of wild animals used in films. Her career then moved into teaching Science and Biology in New Zealand high schools as well as caring for her family. All along the way, dog obedience training and riding the trails kept her sane. Teaching honed her writing skills and developed her ability to thin-slice large scientific concepts to make them digestible to the teenage mind. Now retired, Hertha spends her mornings out and about with her horse, and the rest of the day writing with occasional interference by her granddaughters.
