Brody Jensen, Chief of Police, doesn’t have a heart, or at least that’s what people in Primrose Valley say. Brody’s fan base isn’t burgeoning. He hates disorder and doesn’t mind giving his family and friends speeding tickets.
Sunshine is just that, a ray of sunlight obeying the sole law of nature while living in a rented RV outside of town with her biggest love, Brutus, the largest dog Brody has ever seen in his entire life. The only thing to ever make him shiver in silent fear inside his uniform. Something Sunshine takes to her advantage when their lives cross paths one morning on the road outside of town. For all the dislike Brody has for Brutus, Sunshine knocked him down hard, in more than one way, and he finds it hard to keep up his stone heart façade.
Anthony Haines, a police officer, searches for Sunshine, and by using friends from within the jail system he helps convicted rapist and murderer James Hemmerson escape prison. But to a price. Upon seeing Sunshine’s name on a filed police report in Gass County Haines figures a trade off for Hemmerson’s freedom is how he should be repaid for the illegal effort that could cost him his job and reputation. Haines need Hemmerson to get a special woman back in his life.
