Dickinson Killdeer does not remember much of his life. All he remembers is waking up in the forest one day. He lives by the only two books he could find among his belongings, a boyscout manual and a pocket Bible. While lost in the forest, Killdeer observed the ways of animals. Over time, he noticed the strange behaviors and mutations of the bears and realized that they were headed toward civilization to wipe out mankind. Killdeer followed the bears for two reasons. To find his way back to humanity, and to save it.
