My life as a photographer and graphic designer began in 1985, when I graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in English. It was the year of the Macintosh computer and "desktop publishing," and my first job was managing a typesetting shop in Ann Arbor. I moved to San Francisco in 1987 and began designing and typesetting books as a freelancer for several major book publishers in California and around the country. After years of working on other artists’ and writers’ books and projects, I discovered my own passion for photography. I began experimenting with altering and enhancing the colors in my own photographs. The result was a series of color-enhanced photographs of landmark buildings and sites in Los Angeles, which now includes many images of wildlife and nature. As a graphic designer, my goal has always been to create attractive layouts that appeal to general or specific audiences. As a photographer, I strive for "Joyful Realism," highlighting persons, places, and things in a way that shines a multicolored light on new and hopeful possibilities!
