As Rowan stands on the edge of the cliff looking down into the sea far below she wishes that she could be free and part of it.  The moon breaks apart and a bird appears which leads her to Karlin who shows her how to love.

An elderly couple live in a manor house surrounded by mist and are waiting impatiently for a grapevine to bleed and a village virgin to fall in love so that an ancient curse can be lifted and they can live in eternal peace with their baby Bella.
