Joe Perrone Jr. began writing seriously in 1969 as a sportswriter for the Passaic-Clifton, NJ, Herald News. From there he moved on to freelance copywriting for a number of advertising agencies. His first book was "Gone Fishin’ with Kids (How to Take Your Kids Fishing and Still be Friends)," a non-fiction collaboration with his friend and co-author, Manny Luftglass. The book was published in 1997. Joe’s first two novels were published in 2005: "Escaping Innocence (A Story of Awakening)" is a coming-of-age novel set in the turbulent ’60s; "As the Twig is Bent" is a mystery/thriller set in New York City, and launched the highly successful Matt Davis Mystery Series. When it was first published, "As the Twig is Bent" reached the #24 bestseller mark in the Kindle book store.
Joe followed "Twig" with four other Matt Davis mysteries, including "Opening Day," "Twice Bitten," "Broken Promises," and "Deadly Ransom." Both "Opening Day" and "Broken Promises" were awarded the prestigious Indie BRAG Medallion for excellence in independent publishing. In 2009, Joe published his other non-fiction book, "A ’Real’ Man’s Guide to Divorce (First, you bend over and . . . )," which is exactly what its title implies, complete with a wry touch of humor.
In 2012, Mr. Perrone founded Escarpment Press, primarily a publishing consulting company offering services to independent authors. Escarpment Press publishes several books each year.
