Jack London (1876-1916) is best known for his stories of survival such as The Call of the Wild, White Fang and The Sea Wolf. A native of San Francisco, he was largely self-educated. In the first decade of the 20th century he was active in the Socialist Party and wrote various works (including The Iron Heel) explaining his socialist views.
