This concise history of Croatia begins with the arrival of Greeks and Romans in the early 5th century and covers medieval Croatia, the Ottoman invasion, Habsburg rule, the first Yugoslavia and World War II, Tito's Yugoslavia, Croatian independence and the battles of the 1990's. Contemporary Croatia is also discussed. An introductory chapter describes Croatia's geography, climate, and population. The volume includes a time line of major events, list of Croatian rulers, several maps, and pen and ink illustrations. Tourists will appreciate the volume's readability as well as the historical directory of notable cities and landmarks included. Curtis teaches European history at Seattle University.
